Freeland Realty had Antioch’s empty Global Mall under contract in Spring 2019. The property consisted of over 600,000 sqft of redevelopment opportunity. In the community outreach and market research process, it was clear there was demand for a new community hub in Southeast Nashville. That is why an Innovation District was proposed. An Innovation District is a place where businesses leaders, educational institutions, and community space co-exist to foster the creation of new ideas and technologies. Creating a place for interdisciplinary cross-pollination led to the master planning of a new town center with commercial, residential and hospitality uses. The master planning and entitlement team consisted of experts throughout the country that led a design charrette, as well as a meetings with hundreds of community residents attending in support. The development was eventually branded “The Loop" before the contract was terminated by the buyer in late 2019.
